I love how Team Fortress 2 has gotten constant free maps, and update including new game types and new items for each class.....FOR FREE.

Fuck Activision. As much as people make fun of TF2's hats system, micro transactions is a great system to allow free content to be given out, while allowing people to purchase what they want, and how much they want. It also keeps the community on the same level. I don't have to worry about joining a server that has maps on it I cannot play.

I hate where gaming has gone...more people need to follow Valve rather than CoD and Activation, just because console people eat up these horrible, horrible, greedy DLCs.

That also gets rid of the problem of losing money due to Modding. Let there be free content, and moded content, with micro transactions for cosmetic things...and some weapons and such, whatever.

Compare that to CoD which charges for map packs which are put into general circulation, kicking out people who do not have the map. That does split the community badly and puts pressure on people to buy the DLC not because of quality but because of convenience.

CoD punishes you for not buying DLC, BC2 does not.

That is true, I don't know why I forgot how many maps were added since BC2 started....at this point it feels like they were always there hehe.

Yes, much better system. And Vietnam was great for what it was. I prefer full expansions rather than stupid little map packs and such. That is probably the PC gamer in me talking though. Expansions were the SHIT!! Mech Warrior 4 had a great expansion if I remember correctly....MAN, they need to revitalize the Mech Warrior series (yay tangent!)

So you people are actually glad about the BC2 scam packs? Christ. The game started with like 4 maps... bad ones. Eventually they redid the boundaries on a bunch of the maps so you could play them in other modes and they released them. Could've been done day 1.

While there were some fallacies to the system, the good overweights them. EA also stated that they learned from the negative community feedback and are not doing that again. It was a marketing experiment.

Also, it is way better than practically being forced to pay for 5 overpriced maps to make sure you don't get bumped from servers.

That's not what happens on CoD, I think you're mistaken. Maybe that's a PC thing. I don't know.

If you don't have the map pack on CoD you just don't play those maps. You don't get bumped off the game every time a map comes up that you don't have - like with BC2's VIP.

In CoD if someone in your party doesn't have the map pack, it's disabled for everyone and you end up in different map circulations. Just like you can opt to play only the new maps, you can also play only the old ones.

BC2's VIP system doesn't even need to be ripped to shreds to make a point because you all know how awful it was.

1) Don't give a shit about VIP, doesn't even exist for me
2) Blops PC servers have the option to disable the map packs and to filter servers running it out of the server browser. However this isn't true of the other console CoD titles.

Regardless of what you think about the BC2 "map packs" the initial maps in themselves show a hell of a lot more value than a single Blops map. Each is probably worth at least 5 Blops maps in regards to time spent creating it. I got bored with the Blops maps very quickly, I still enjoy the majority of the BC2 maps, even the ones that have been there from release such as Arica. The addition of the new maps for FREE made it even better. Oasis, Heavy Metal, Harvest Day, White Pass were a great addition to the game. Even the "altered" maps didn't annoy me too much, I still enjoyed the original maps and some of them like Laguna Presa Rush were so significantly different from the initial version that it felt like an entirely new map.

Anyway, who is to say that First Strike wasn't made before the release of Blops? In which case what they did was significantly WORSE than what DICE did with BC2 as they are charging money for it.

the pre-order back to karkand bonus (which will likely be $15 w/o) sounds a lot like Vietnam too... it's own vehicle/weapon & perk set on it's own 4 maps. Separate game from the main BF3 game.

I hope they do they same cosmetic & unlock shortcut shit too for paid DLC while releasing free maps.... though hopefully more then just proliferating your maps across the modes (MP7 paid off though)

I don't expect mod tools... not right away, though hopefully theyll get to them within the year and then take some of the communities best contributions and share them with console (why the fuck not?)

Valve is an outstanding company... DICE ain't perfect but a far cry better then Activitsion... even EA seems to have toned it down a tad... though looks like I have $30 of DLC to buy for ME2 =\ I'm getting the game for only $10 tho so fuck it. I <3 gamefly Very Happy

VIP was not a massive scam.

#1 it was free to anyone with forthright knowledge
#2 It still included new maps, and as D noted... some versions really felt different.

A lame marketing attempt, that backfired harshly, but all in all not that bad or big of a deal.

Only people that paid the price for it were second handers and PSN account hoppers

I do but what I was saying, phrased in a different way, was that regardless of the VIP locked content crap (which I do not condone at all btw) each BC2 map shows a much greater degree of content, work and thought than the CoD maps. The "what you think" was in direct reference to your condemnation of the "VIP" map packs. It was not a dismissal of what you directly think.

However this VIP stuff relies on the assumption that it was all directly locked. Stuff like Laguna Presa was so different from the original version that it may be safe to say that most of the map didn't even exist at launch as really was created afterwards.

And yes whilst the VIP stuff was a bit dishonest I still see it as less of a scam than pretty much all of Blops, let alone Modern Warfail 2. And as they said, the same thing won't be happening again (but that isn't exactly set in stone you would be foolish to totally take their word for it)

Oh and as I said, VIP didn't exist for me. There was no such thing on PC. Only the name "VIP" was included anywhere. It was simply additional content that was added throughout the game's life.
