| It's hard to take MK seriously after experiencing the technical depth of games like Virtua Fighter and Street Fighter. | |

| Fighting games are like SO 90s.
Only fighting game that I've really played was MK3... All fighting games are still basically like that, nothing groundbreaking, just mash the buttons.

| The same can be said of FPS, and platform games. They hardly progressed in the last decade. | |

| Well, I've played extensively all the Street Fighter iterations, Mortal Kombats, Fatal Fury's, King of Fighters, Last Blades, Dark Stalkers, Capcom VS. Series, Tekkens, Virtua Fighters, Melty Blood, Soul Calibers, X-Men, Marvel, Guilty Gear series, Fist of the North Star, and most recently Capcom vs Marvel 3... as you can probably see I'm a bit of a serious fighting game fan. I look at them considering things like balance, technicality, systems, combo and juggle system, etc... Mortal Kombat from the very beginning didn't present the same level of depth 'Japanese' fighters offered, and you can tell the developers were struggling to establish a comprehensive identity system for MK. Street Fighter vs MK is like comparing BF vs CoD. | |

On the other hand racing games have remind unchanged in the last decade and how so? FPS have added persistant leveling, sandbox maps, vehicles, killstreaks, new game modes, increased player counts, destruction.... Fighting games added 3d arenas.... uhm...... tag team? gone up to 4 player battles, uhm..... maybe I just have to much disdain for fighting games to appreciate it

| Fighting games evolve within the combat systems employed during gameplay. New additions, refinements, and subtle changes open up huge new venues of gameplay to explore. New category methods of attacking and defending are constantly emerging. Some well beyond the casual level of players, and some only accessible by the top most WookieMode of players. It's very hard to explain to someone who has no interest in fighting games. A lot of these concepts are way beyond MK games. | |

| I used to play LOTS of fighting games.... from SF2 to Soul Caliber and damn near everything in between.
seems to me to be more about learning cheese moves & combos to abuse on your enemy till they learn to counter it, then your next cheese move/combo.
They just keep changing the cheese moves

| Cheese and ridiculous combos are a staple of shallow games like Tekken and recently Soul Caliber. Tekken has barely evolved since its inception. On the other hand, games like Virtua Fighter, Capcom, and Arcsystem games are pushing the bounderies of fighting systems. Nitako, sabaki, oki, crossing, mirroring, linking, setups, counters, parry, focus, canceling, frame buffering, frame canceling, state resets, otg, exceeds, supers, specials, ultras, etc... and much, much more. | |
